THE HOTTEST AND THE MOST DEBATED QUESTION TODAY IS:-

WHAT PATH WE MUST FOLLOW GLOBALISM OR NATIONALISM?

This question has significant repercussions on almost everything around us whether it is political whether it is cultural or whether it is the identity of one's Nation.

On one side we have nationalism Collins defined nationalism not only as devotion to one's Nation but also projected a view, a credo that it puts National interest above all International preferences and considerations. In India, the modern view of nationalism is that our modern societies are built on national Grounds which share a common land, a common history, a common culture, and with that we tend to protect one another in this enormous and violent world.

On the other side, we have alarmed to globalists who won us that self-centered nationalism can easily turn ugly, Globalism as defined by Collins dictionary as operation ability of policies which are political and foreign with the considerate view of a global perspective.

Today in India we live with the idea that if we live in the country the government will protect us if we follow all the norms and laws but today as the extremist Nationalist ideology of India is on the rise one has to accept this brutal truth that even if you abide by all the laws and be the best citizen possible the government can still harm you for the reasons of the extra-terrestrial domain. Globalism is just a Scrap goat today for the Indian government, the Indian leader who follows the ideology of minimum government maximum governance and yet is doubling down on government where is all the privatization happening, and this the situation has let me think that why do we have to choose between nationalism and globalism between embracing my country and respecting the world.

I don't think there's a good reason to do that today we live in a complex world in which one can have multiple identities and today we are living with those multiple identities and we are living pretty well. I would also like to point out the fact that in the world value survey in which more than 89000 people of more than 60 countries were questioned on the fact that how proud they felt about their country and 88.5 percent replied that they have a very strong sense of feeling proud when they are talked about their country; with this fact we can get clear on one thing that nationalism is not going away anytime soon. In the Indian context, we consider nationalism as a strong predictor of individual happiness nationalism in India is more related to National satisfaction than things one might expect as job satisfaction, health satisfaction, household income or any other. Also because of globalization extreme poverty rates in India at renting down steadily many people in India have shown is spectacular improvement in the standard of living.

Now let us also look at some non-binary nuggets of truth related to nationalism when Nationalists think about globalism in India the usual thought is people with multiple Origins living in a big Cosmopolitan Metropolis interestingly the survey which I mentioned earlier pointed out another fascinating fact that 71% of the people agreed with the fact that they or the citizen of the world; now what this means is most people in India are simultaneously proud of the country and as well as at the same time are respecting the cultural diversity of the globe it gets better when we add the fact that citizens of the world in the survey have a higher level of national Pride than ones rejected that label.

The popular notion that if you are a globalist you cannot preserve your country, according to me is absolutely false.

In my opinion, it simply means that I have adequate social empathy and I am willing to share some of it beyond my territorial restrictions moving the conversation forward I would also like to add the point that a lot of ingredients of national identities actually come from outside the national borders considering the example of the constitution of India which is heavily derived from the Government of India Act drafted by the British and it is not only India many of the countries around the globe have their key ingredients of nationalism derived from the globalist society then.

For example: - The Motto on the British coat of arms is written in the French language, similarly, the French Eiffel tower is derived from inspiration from the US. We may consider China as the self-enclosed society behind the Great Wall but the major ideology of China is Marxism was made in Germany; the major religion Buddhism was adopted from India. In the Indian context best pastime is cricket and I would like to quote Ashish Nandy here that “Cricket is an Indian game accidentally discovered by the British”

Indian political culture and Society is not a closed tradition preserved by a fanatic great keeper but it is a continuously evolving organism that derives its inspirations from various scholars, explorers, innovators of both native and foreign origin globalization today also give us a chance to revisit, re-examine, regenerate, reintegrate our culture to attract new converts and stay vibrant and relevant over most periods of time.

So, I think it is safe to conclude that most of the Nationalists in India are globalists and most of the globalist are Nationalist with this I think that the question at the beginning that we must use either choose nationalism or globalism is irrelevant in the present context; rather it should be that how can we make better use of both this is a complex question and in this Complex world it requires creativity and non-binary thinking to see nationalism and globalism in coherence with each other to see them as two sides of the same coin rather than two separate avenues.
